What kind of the Standard zoom lens (EF-S) you should know?
Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS: Usually ships with a basic level camera (1100D, 650D).
Canon 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS: Usually bundled with the camera mid-level / advanced 60D/7D. This lens is more practical than the 18-55mm because the focus is more long-range, suitable for the streets.

Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L II: a high-quality lens, sharp, strong and agile, professional mainstay.
Recommendation: If you do not mind the price and physical size of the lens, 24-105mm and 24-70mm will give a very good picture quality.
Super zoom lens (EF and EF-S)

Telephoto zoom lens (EF-S and EF)

Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II - the top lens, providing image quality and AF is very good, usually relied upon by professionals. Because there IS, is a practical lens for photography in dark or bright light conditions. Suitable types of photography such as weddings, portraits, sports, wildlife.
Canon 70-300mm f/3.5-5.6 L IS - One of the telephoto lens for Canon's L series, the resulting image quality is good and not too big physically, but unfortunately the opening is a bit small and not constant.
Canon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS - One of the lens with DO label, which means it has a small physical size and lighter than other L series telephoto lenses.
Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS - Reach 400mm, this lens is usually preferred by wildlife photographer.
Recommendation: There are so many that belongs Canon telephoto lens. But the most famous is his series of 70-200mm. Often people confused to choose one of them. For more details, I have never written a select Canon telephoto lens 70-200mm. For who want to save money and have a lighter-sized lens, 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS quite okay.

Canon 135mm f / 2 L - Popular for close-up portraits, fashion. Difficult for low light conditions because there is no Image Stabilization.

Canon 300mm f/2.8 L IS - Sports field, wildlife, birds.
Canon 300mm f / 4 L IS - telephoto lens is a cheaper alternative for smaller maximum aperture.
Recommendation: Some lenses that I think that's brilliant 50mm f/1.2, 85mm f/1.2. 135mm f / 2 also produces high contrast photos and sharp, but it's hard not wear it if conditions favor light (dark). If funds are limited to that, Canon 85mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.8 lens which is the result exceeds the price. For fans of the macro, Canon 100mm f/2.8 L Macro IS lens is very good.
