How to take night photos using Canon compact cameras
How to take night photos? It's usual and common to get perfect photos if we has SLR cameras. How about we has Canon compact cameras. We will face many challenges if we take night scene using canon compact cameras. We will be difficult due to compact cameras has hight noises at night scene.
However, You should be not worried about the hight noises. Sometimes, I observe that several Canon compact cameras can be set in manual modes. It's advantageous for us, due to we can set the most appropriate setting of night scenes.
Photos was interesting at night because of the color and the light is very different from daytime. Color saturation and contrast are usually higher. We can use a compact camera or DSLR to photograph a nice evening.
Challenges night photos is that we should be able to imagine about what the picture is. When we use long exposure (slow shutter speed), we can only speculate. Because the sky is very dark in our eyes, it can be made to turn blue in the photo. Fortunately, digital cameras allow us to see the photos directly via the camera's LCD screen.
The final challenge is that we need some kind of support / tripod so that when using slow shutter speed. It's Aimed at solving camera shake and it will cause the picture to blur.
Step by step of night photography are as follows:
Set the camera on a steady and it's not tilted. Use a buffer such as a mini tripod (for compact). It's Easy when using a tripod is that we can point the camera up or down. If you have a camera that can be set exposure mode, I suggest using manual mode.
Set the ISO to the lowest value, such as 80, 100 or 200 for the quality of the picture is clear and sharp
You can set aperture / aperture to f / 8 - f/16 sharpness for DSLR cameras so that the space is large enough, compact enough for openings around f/2.5-3.5.
Set the shutter speed value is rather slow, so that sufficient light, usually between 6-20 seconds depending on existing light conditions.
If you have a camera which it's unable to regulated exposure, we can use night scene option. Do not forget to use a tripod.
What is Scene modes?
In addition to automatic mode, a lot of people who use scene modes for shooting. Scene modes are several modes to help the camera choose the settings appropriate to the subject being photographed. Scene modes found in a pocket camera to DSLR middle class.
scene modes are abolished in class of advanced DSLR because DSLR camera users considered to be advanced manually setting and scene modes do not need anymore.
Popular scene modes for those who like practicality and do not want to bother to configure the camera. Below is a description of some popular scene modes effects. For complete technical know each scene modes, we can read in the manuals of each camera.
Portrait (a symbol of the human face): The camera will try to detect your face and try to soften the face. Sharpness is reduced so that the pores or pimples on the face is not very clear. The camera also will choose a relatively large aperture lens to create background blur.
Landscape (mountain symbol): Usually used for landscape. The camera will tend to choose a small aperture so that all areas of sharp photos. Additionally sharpness and color saturated blue and green made higher so that the details more visible and attractive.
Sports (symbol person runs): The camera will select a faster shutter speed to freeze motion with the effort. Mode autofocus will become subject tracking (AI-Servo/AF-C) to follow the movement of the subject. The camera also selects the drive mode continuous shooting, so when cameras snap button is pressed and held, the camera will continue to make photographs.
Night Portrait (man and star symbol): It's similar to the Portrait scene. In addition, the camera selects the slow shutter speed, aimed at capturing the ambient light. Usually the results are better and sharper when we also use the flash.
Night Scene (moon symbol): For photo night scenery. The camera will choose a slower shutter speed so that picture looks bright at night. It takes a tripod so the photos do not blur.
Close-up (symbol rate): For photos of the subject at close range (under 30 cm). Ideally when using a macro lens. In compact cameras, lenses usually have no macro feature. By pressing the symbol rate, the lenses will look closest focus. Suitable for photos of insects, flowers, other small objects.
Monochrome (black and white symbols): Change color to grayscale (black and white). Good for photo paper or things that do not need color. Should not be used to get a black and white because it will not be returned to the colors. The results will be better if we convert color images to monochrome with image processing software.
Fireworks: The camera selects the shutter speed is extremely slow, setting the focus to infinity. Must use a tripod if the photo will blur as we shake hands.
Panorama: The most exciting scene modes for landscape wide. We live snap button and move the camera from left to right or bag down.
Finally, if you wanna get better night photos, You must select above night Portrait. You should know that the cameras producers has set the appropriate modes depending on scene.
